Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo has re-issued his marching orders to the Philippine National Police and all law enforcement agencies in the province to run after illegal gambling, illegal drugs and to prosecute their operators in court, whoever they may be.

Degamo issued the directive after a foiled assassination plot on his life, which according to him was due to his campaign against illegal gambling, and for being the governor of the province. The governor is aware who these people are, as he cautioned them that the long arms of the law will be after them with enough evidences and witnesses.

He, however, said confessions of the two suspects when they were arrested with firearms and explosives will be validated, considering the implications and its consequences.

“They believe that my weakest point is my home, not knowing that almost two-thirds of the people in Bonawon, Siaton are my relatives who are vigilant as ever for my safety,” Degamo told a press briefing.

The governor made it clear he is unfazed by the recent attempt on his life and assured the Oriental Negrense he will continue to deliver more basic social services to the people. In fact, another medical mission is scheduled in Bayawan City after the successful conduct of the same in Bindoy and Guihulngan.

PNP provincial commander Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza said tighter security is being provided to the governor.

The governor has instructed the police to validate reports that the recent shooting incident in Siaton was due to conflicts between the operation of “swertres” and Bingo Milyonaryo. (PNA/ JFP/Juancho Gallarde)
