The Provincial Government of Negros Oriental is scheduled to launch its newest initiative dubbed as the MagDEGAMO Ta!-Mobile Surgical Team on April 25 at the Siaton District Hospital in the Municipality of Siaton.

The surgical mission will run from April 25 to April 27.

The launching is timed a few days before the 45th birthday celebration of Governor Roel Degamo on April 29 and he described this activity as his gift to the people of Negros Oriental who are suffering from various illnesses and do not have the money to seek the needed medical treatment.

The Mobile Surgical Team is composed of surgeons employed by the Provincial Government and at the same time members of the Philippine Academy of Medical Specialists or PAMS-Negros Oriental Chapter who will conduct free minor and major surgical procedures.

The team will be joined in by eye specialists from the Association of Cebu Eye Specialists or ACES who are being tapped to conduct free treatment and surgical procedures on eye-related problems.

Governor Degamo said the Mobile Surgical Team is one of the programs highlighted in the centerpiece of his program of government under HELP which means Health, Education, Livelihood Programs and Projects.

It is also among the highlights during the formal launching of Sa Probinsya-MagDEGAMO Ta! held last month which is a move by the Provincial Government to call for unity and a call to action.

“After a little over three months in office, we are now implementing several projects that I have identified as my priority projects when I laid down my programs of government before the Sanguniang Panlalawigan last February,” the governor said.

Public participation

As this developed, the Provincial Government is now asking the public especially those who have eye-related concerns to visit their Municipal Health Office for the initial screening and master listing. The final screening will be done on April 25 or on the day of the program launching.

For those who need both minor and major surgical procedures, they are advised to visit the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital for the necessary laboratory examinations.

Governor Degamo said this is totally at no cost to the identified beneficiaries. In fact, the surgical team is targeting those who are not members of any of the health insurance programs.

At this early, the governor thanked all the sectors that have expressed their support to the different programs of the Provincial Government. He also thanked Board Member Liland Estacion, who is a doctor by profession, for lending her expertise to this particular program.
