The provincial government of Negros Oriental has initiated two major medical-dental-surgical missions for two successive days as a way of celebrating special occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays.
Last May 15, the medical team of the provincial government, together with medical teams from various government line agencies and volunteers conducted a medical-dental and surgical mission in the city of Guihulngan to celebrate the 54th anniversary of the Governor William Villegas Memorial Hospital also known as the Guihulngan District Hospital.
The following day, the medical teams brought the medical mission to the municipality of Jimalalud to highlight the birthday celebration of Vice Mayor Reynaldo “Dodoy” Tuanda Sr.
That said activity was a sort of follow-up activity since the provincial government also conducted the same earlier during the birthday celebration of Mayor Hazel Tuanda Billiones.
The series of medical missions gathered thousands of residents from the respective localities that availed of the free medical-dental and surgical services which included add-on services like haircut, reflexology and ear piercing.
Governor Degamo said the provincial government will try its best to conduct more medical and surgical missions as part of its strategy to bring the needed medical services closer to the people.
“This is the essence of my priority program under the banner Sa Probinsiya—MagDEGAMO Ta! as a vehicle to attain total peace and development in Negros Oriental,” the governor said.
Guihulngan City Mayor Guido Reyes thanked the governor for initiating the medical mission as one of the highlights of the Guihulngan District Hospital celebration.
For his part, Vice Mayor Dodoy Tuanda also expressed his gratitude to Governor Degamo for bringing free medical services to Jimalalud during his and his daughter’s birthday celebrations.
Governor Degamo said he will continue to form partnerships with the various sectors in order to address the various concerns of the people especially in the hinterlands so as to sustain the latest accomplishment of reducing the insurgency problem in the province to a manageable level.
“Mas kinahanglan nato nga pang-hingusgan ang atong mga paningkamot aron wala nay rason pa nga mobalik ug suporta ang mga katawhan sa laing mga kawsa, idolohiya ug tinuhuan,” Governor Degamo said.
He reiterated his call to the remaining members of the NPA to come down, go back to the folds of the law and join in all the peace initiatives of the government in order to fully develop Negros Oriental.
He said the medical-dental-surgical mission is one of the vehicles which the provincial government uses to advance peace and development efforts in the province.
Meanwhile, a week before, the provincial government’s medical teams and volunteers also conducted medical and animal missions in Barangay Bakid also of Guihulngan City.
On top of the free medical services, the provincial government, through the Provincial Veterinary Office, also conducted an animal mission which included activities such as deworming and artificial insemination (AI).
Governor Degamo has strongly supported the conduct of artificial insemination as it is an avenue to increase the livelihood opportunities of the farmers as it enhances the production of livestock.
“What we did in Barangay Bakid was a case of bringing two major components of my priority program under the banner Sa Probinsya–MagDEGAMO Ta! to the people particularly health services and livelihood opportunities,” the governor said.
