NEGROS ORIENTAL, June 20 (PIA) — The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will launch again its additional Information Kiosk and conduct a multi-sectoral forum dubbed “Ugnayan: A Dialogue for Progress” on June 29 in the municipality of Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

The Info Kiosk will be launched at the Sibulan Seaport Terminal at 8:00 a.m. which will be followed by an Ugnayan at 10:00 a.m. at the Municipal Multi-Purpose Hall in Barangay Cangmating, Sibulan.

The kiosk will contain various information materials about the Association of Southeast Asian Nations   (ASEAN) and Philippine government programs while the Ugnayan forum centers the discussion on livelihood government programs and thrusts including disaster preparedness.

Expected to grace the launching of the info kiosk are Governor Roel Degamo, Sibulan Mayor Jose Abiera along with his Sangguniang Bayan members and department heads, OIC Regional Director Fayette Riñen of PIA7, DYWC Radio Station Manager Fr. Ramonito Maata, heads and representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Negros Island Region, Department of Agriculture, Office of Civil Defense, Philippine Ports Authority, Philippine Coast Guard and DepEd among others.

Some 50 participants composed of barangay officials, members of women’s group, farmers and fisherfolks associations are also expected to participate in the forum.

The activities are part of the strategies in delivering developmental information to the grassroots in every province to present the policy directives and significant thrusts of President Rodrigo  Duterte’s Administration that includes ASEAN 2017.

Last March, PIA installed its first Information Kiosk in the province at Robinson’s Place Dumaguete which was successfully followed by an Ugnayan Forum at Silliman University in April.

The establishment of the information kiosks in strategic areas and the holding of forums are two platforms utilized by the PIA to drum up support to the Philippines’ chairmanship of the ASEAN this year. The country’s hosting coincides with the 50th Founding Anniversary of the ASEAN which is anchored on the theme, “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”.

The PIA, the country’s public information arm, is mandated to reach out to every Filipino and communicate timely, accurate and relevant information that contributes to proactive citizenship and enable the people to identify opportunities for their growth. (fcr/jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
