The governor of Negros Oriental has ordered to speed up the construction of the maternal care unit of a district hospital in Guihulngan, Negros.

Governor Roel Degamo gave this directive in the groundbreaking of the Comprehensive Emergency Maternal and Obstetrical Neonatal Care (CEMONC) site in Guihulngan District Hospital in Negros.

Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo said the Department of Health (DOH) allotted P25 million for the CEMONC’s construction.

Sedillo said the CEMONC construction is one of the governor’s priority projects as he believes it will help reduce the maternal and child mortality incidence in Negros Oriental.

“Through facilities like the CEMONC, the governor is confident that the province will achieve a zero mortality rate in child and maternal deaths in the province by 2015,” he said.

On April 21, the governor also led the groundbreaking ceremony of a CEMONC facility at the Bayawan District Hospital in Bayawan City.

The provincial government allotted P12.5 million for the facility’s construction in Bayawan.

Sedillo said the district hospitals of Bayawan City and Guihulngan City were chosen for the CEMONC facilities due to their location.

Bayawan City is at the southwest tip of Negros Oriental under the third congressional district while Guihulngan City is at the northeast portion of the island-province under the first congressional district. (RMN-PIA7 Negros Oriental)
