Some 125 member-women of local government units’ Gender and Development (GAD) and other women organizations are expected to participate in a Kapihan forum and workshop on March 27 with Visayan Forum Foundation Inc. (VFFI)  at Negros Oriental Convention Center, Dumaguete City.

 

 

VFFI president Ma. Cecilia Flores-Oebanda as guest speaker will tackle this year’s Women’s Month celebration theme “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!.”

 

GAD provincial focal person Josie Columna said the GAD member-participants will be asked to answer a focus question in a workshop on “How can you or your agency encourage, motivate and inspire women to take action to improve the lives of everybody?”

 

Columna, in a committee meeting cited the importance of women as drivers and empowerment development at home, community or workplace.

 

Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo will join Oebanda to show support in terms of programs and projects for women advancement in the province. 

 

Oebanda founder-president of VFFI,  a Manila-based organization that pushes programs and policies to curb modern-day slavery and empower vulnerable migrants such as victims of human trafficking and exploited domestic workers.

 

Meantime, Dumaguete City Federated Women’s Organization or the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) will be hold a seminar on RA 9710, 9208, 7610 and 9165 to new members of the organization in the city.

 

This law focuses on Women’s and Children’s rights, human trafficking and the Dangerous Drugs Act.

 

According to KALIPI president Merlinda Limbaga the seminar aims to educate women of their rights, protecting the rights of their children and human trafficking.

 

 This is also in line with Women’s Month celebration in the city which include a Kapihan forum on March 17 at the City Sanguniang Session Hall with guest-panelists include local council for women chair Phoebe Tan; Judith Alpuerto of Provincial Planning & Development Office; and City Sports Coordinator Ike Villaflores.

 

Some activities in the annual Convention of Women’s Organization in the city include Folk Dance Competition, Minus One Singing Contest, Jail Visitation at the Women’s Dorm of the City Jail at Bajumpandan, Kapihan sa PIA, and a Symposium.
