The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Negros Oriental will donate P1 million to flood victims in the National Capital Region and neighboring provinces in Luzon, a government press release said.

The decision was reached in a recent special meeting, where the PDRRMC passed a resolution extending financial assistance to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for victims of the recent flood brought by monsoon rains.

The amount will be sourced from the Quick Response Fund of the province.

Under Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System, 30 percent of the local calamity fund is allocated as QRF, or standby fund, for relief and recovery programs, the press release also said.

The 70 percent is set aside for disaster risk management activities, like preparedness programs and trainings, purchase of life-saving rescue equipment, supplies and medicines and post-disaster activities, the press release added.*
