Responding to the memorandum issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the provincial government of Negros oriental joined in the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill.

Through the PDRRMC, Governor Roel Ragay Degamo called on employees and officials of the provincial government to join in the aid activity facilitated by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Hundreds of officials and employees from the various offices inside the capitol building performed and simulated the basic responses during an earthquake. “Dock, Cover and Hold,” thus the officials and employees performed when the alarm signalling an earthquake occurred.

Governor Degamo said the earthquake drill is one of the many activities lined-up by the provincial government every year, through the PDRRMC, as part of the continuing preparation to minimize the impact of disasters.

The governor said this is the essence of the disaster risk reduction and management or DRRM framework. “We have to prepare in order to minimize the risks to the limbs, lives and properties of the people,” the governor stated.
