Rapid rural development  may be expected in Negros Oriental this year with Governor Roel Degamo saying that  the challenges had helped him to strive harder  to attain maximum development in the province.

 

The RRD programs include the opening and improvement of existing roads, water systems, electrification projects, livelihood opportunities, organic farming, and the proposed road network traversing the vast hectares of land in Tamlang Valley, from Sta, Catalina to Pamplona.

Degamo said around 14.252 kilometers of road, with a total appropriation of P75.64 million, have been concreted; 34.9 kilometers, worth P15.1 million, repaired, improved or re-graveled; and 20 waterworks system projects, worth P6.5 million, completed.

The provincial government also constructed, repaired and renovated various hospitals, rural health units and other health facilities all over the province, with P4.5 million budget, and developed the Provincial Convention Center hotel portion, due to observations that it has become a white elephant, and tourism sites like the Mantalip Reef in Bindoy, boardwalk in Barangay Luka, Tanjay City, the Mabinay caves, Lake Balinsasayao in Sibulan, and the Balanan Lake in Siaton.

Provincial engineer Franco Alpuerto said 444 projects, worth P360 million, were completed last year.
