Children with Disabilities and members of the Oriental Negros Children’s Advocacy Network participated in the first candlelighting for peace held recently at the Freedom Park in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
The participation of the CWD and the Great Physician Rehabilitation is a strong manifestation that children support the quests for lasting peace, organizers said.
The ceremony was led by Gov. Roel Degamo, a strong supporter of children with disabilities, with Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2nd District), Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and other officials.
Undersecretary Ibarra Gutierrez of the Office of the Political Adviser delivered the message of President Benigno Aquino III to the people of Negros Oriental and his gratitude for the continuation of the peace negotiation in Norway.
The activity is spearheaded by the Province of Negros Oriental, People Power Volunteers for Reform and the Bayanihan Para sa Kabataan.
Arnaiz said that the issue of peace is not only an obligation of the government, but also of the community in supporting the governments program. He promised his support for the province through projects and programs, especially on children’s welfare.
He said he is thankful that Degamo has continued the program for children development. He added that uplifting the living condition by infrastructure support and livelihood will help solve the insurgency problem in the province.
Degamo said the Provincial Government will give its best support for maintaining peace and order in Negros Oriental and will continue to work and fight for the welfare of children who deserve to live in a peaceful environment.*MA
