The Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) targets to demonetize old peso notes next year, to give way to the full circulation of the new generation currency (NGC).

With this, the BSP in cooperation with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) has set series of demonetization information dissemination campaigns in a Kapihan multi-sectoral forum and briefing-orientation with members of the Association of Negros Oriental Public Information Officers (ANOPIO).

The Kapihan is scheduled on March 18 at 9:00 a.m. at Bethel Guest House and ANOPIO briefing on March 26 at BSP-Dumaguete Branch, Dumaguete City.

The BSP aimed to inform the public especially the cash handlers or treasurers and collectors in the cities and municipalities of Negros Oriental on demonetization, the process of removing the monetary value of a currency.

To orient the participants of the forum and information officers from the different local government units is the economic and financial learning center in-charge Gregorio Baccay III of BSP.

The public is encouraged to have their old peso series exchanged with the new design series at authorized financial institutions and at BSP branches before the old notes are demonetized.

With the new banknotes, the information campaign would also present the improved security features to protect the people from counterfeiting. (mbcn/JCT/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
