Around 2,000 employees of the provincial government in Negros Oriental will pit athletic skills during a sports festival that will officially kick off on May 16, 2011.

The provincial government-initiated sportsfest dubbed “MagDEGAMO Ta” Governor’s Cup will feature three ball games, namely: basketball, volleyball (men and women) and kickball (men and women).

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo earlier instructed Engr. Dominador Dumalag, who heads the Governor’s United Assistance for Rural Development (GUARD), to line up activities that will promote wellness among provincial government employees.

“The governor wants the activity to promote healthy lifestyle while strengthening the camaraderie among the provincial government workers.”

During the kick-off ceremony, Degamo will lead the employees in a parade in Dumaguete City, starting from Rizal Boulevard through Silliman Avenue up to the Macias Sports Center where a short program will take place.

14 teams have already been formed and signed up for basketball. “We are still accepting entries for volleyball and kickball,” he said. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)
