Col. Manuel Luis Ochotorena, commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, yesterday said he is hopeful that his troops can impart to far-flung communities their recently-acquired skills on organic farming.
Thirty-five participants, with two officers and eight enlisted personnel of the Philippine Army, 22 members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit, and three Special Civilian Armed Auxiliary, graduated yesterday from a ten-day training organized by the Negros Island Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development-Tanjay team.

Governor Agustin Perdices has created his own version in Negros Oriental of the 4 P’s program that is aimed at helping the poor farmers through support services.
The 4P’s stands for Pang-Probinsyang Programa sa Pang-hayupan ug Pang-Agrikultura, Perdices said.

Negros Oriental Gov. Agustin Perdices said he hopes to get the full support of all officials in the province in its bid to host the Palarong Pambansa in 2012 where it will compete with provinces in the Central Visayas.
Perdices said Region 7, which comprises the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, will have its turn to host the Palaro in 2012.

Preparations for this year’s Buglasan Festival of Festivals are now on high gear with assurance of support from most local chief executives in Negros Oriental.
Various concerns had been raised by the mayors at their regular meeting yesterday, attended by Gov. Agustin Perdices and the Buglasan directorate represented by Glynda Descuatan and Nick Elman.
The concerns include the mobility of participants, especially the mayors, who claim that their vehicle passes are not honored by traffic enforcers, and the very crowded Sidlakan booth area.

Negros Oriental will observe World Tourism Month Sept. 12 to 18, with participating schools joining the celebration on the theme “Tourism and Biodiversity.”
Senior Tourism Operations Officer Myla Mae Abellana revealed that tertiary schools in Dumaguete City with tourism and related courses will manage the celebration through booth presentations, lectures and symposia, games and competitions, and cultural programs in Sidlakang Negros Village.
