Administrator Orkham Usman of the National Dairy Authority assured the Land O’ Lakes Foundation Philippines Incorporated that it will sustain and develop the dairy industry in Negros Oriental. The foundation has turned over the management of the dairy industry in Negros Oriental to NDA and the Negros Oriental Dairy Producers Incorporated, the makers of NORIENT Fresh Milk products after the contract of the foundation with the dairy farmers ended on June 30.
The foundation is one of the food and marketing cooperatives in United States under the US Department of Agriculture. Usman said the NDA will ensure that the dairy industry in the province will grow in the number of dairy cows, farmer memberships, and increase the production of milk. Operations manager of Land O’Lakes, Marilyn Mabale, said everything that has been put up by the foundation will be put to waste without cooperation among the dairy farmers and the NDA. The operation and production of the dairy processing plant will always depend on the volume of milk collected from the dairy cows, she said, adding that the province is fortunate to be a recipient of the dairy production program of the foundation.Usman said they will conduct trainings on good manufacturing services and care factory to dairy farmers. He challenged dairy farmers to take good care of their cows, so that they can produce quality and good volume of milk. Meanwhile. Gov. Emilio Macias II has encouraged the NDA to teach the dairy farmers the right way in collecting and pasteurizing the milk at home. He said sanitation and cleanliness should be a priority in order to prevent any incidents of food poisoning.Macias added that the availability of fresh milk in every home will ensure that school children are healthy. Two additional dairy farmer associations from Dauin and La Libertad will join the four associations in the province. Dairy farmers in Dauin will receive some of the dairy cows in August, while the La Libertad Dairy Farmers Association will be reactivated through the NODAPI. NODAPI is registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission, and is the umbrella organization of all dairy farmers in Negros Oriental.(with reports from Maricar Aranas-VDS) |
