The Provincial Health Insurance of Negros Oriental (PHINO) has a total target of 30,000 members from poor families to benefit from the program and Gov. Emilio Macias II has allocated P25 million for the first five years of its implementation.
Employees of the province are already enrolled as members of PHINO and they contribute P50 per month, or P600 for one year. The Provincial Social Welfare Office has a complete list of indigent families. One of the services offered during Paningkamot caravan is the enrollment of PHINO especially of members of poor families. Earlier, Macias said PHINO will not compete with the PhilHealth Insurance program. He said PHINO will even complement PhilHealth because its members can still become a member of PHINO. Macias said PHINO can accommodate the needs of the patient in case of major operations, but PhilHealth has a limited coverage. He also said Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital and PHINO are both under the management of the Provincial Government.(with reports from Maricar Aranas-VDS) |
