Type
The whole eastern part of the province falls under the third type of climate which is characterized by not very pronounced maximum rainfall with a short dry season from one (1) to three (3) months. The other half falls under the first type, characterized by a distinct wet and dry season. A dry month is one wherein rainfall is less than two inches.
Rainfall Distribution
Average monthly rainfall distribution in 2002 ranged from 12.6 millimeters to 169.7 millimeters with a minimum of six rainy days and a maximum of 17 rainy days. April had the lowest for the year with 12.6 millimeters and October had the most with 169.7 millimeters.
During the same period in 1995, rainfall was recorded at 0.6 mm. However, in the month of October rainfall was recorded at 169.7 mm, the highest in the year.

Temperature Range
The temperature for the entire province in 2002 was recorded to range between 22.80C and 23.70C. Maximum temperature reached 34.50C in the month of July. Minimum temperature was recorded at 20.600C in the month of April.
Prevailing Winds
Prevailing winds from June to September is southwest monsoon (“Habagat”), while northeast monsoon or “Amihan” occurr in the months of November to February. Variable wind is observed from March to May.
Typhoon Frequencies
Negros Oriental basks outside the typhoon belt. The island’s backbone of high mountain ranges breaks the full effects of the southwest monsoon and keeps weather generally fair all year round. Typhoons that hit the Bicol region or Central Luzon in a northeasterly direction usually hit Negros Oriental. The northernmost part of the province is within the path of typhoons coming from the Surigao-Samar direction.
Relative Humidity
Humidity is the degree of moisture content in the atmosphere. The relative humidity in the province ranges between 78 percent and 84 percent. Annual average humidity in the province is approximately 82 per cent.
