Dam caused rockslide?

Gov. Roel Degamo has ordered a thorough environmental probe on the alleged giant “rockslide” from Valencia caused by the collapse of a certain earth dam, which sent tons of flood water and giant rocks down the river ways, ripping apart anything that stood on its way.

Authorities prevent ‘gold rush’ in Siaton

Government officials are trying to avert a “gold rush” in a remote barangay in Siaton, Negros Oriental.

This was after the reported presence of raw gold traces in the area that could attract the attention of enterprising businessmen or individuals who could endanger the lives of small-scale miners.

Gov.  Roel Degamo and Siaton Mayor Albert Ator announced Wednesday the suspension of illegal quarrying operations at the “placer deposit” site in Siaton to prevent loss of lives as in the January 5, mining disaster in Compostela Valley.

Negros Oriental turns 122

TheProvinceofNegros Orientalturned 122 this year after it became independent in January 1, 1890 by virtue of a Royal Decree issued by the King of Spain.

Negros Oriental Governor Roel Ragay Degamo led the simple but meaningful celebration which was also attended by the members of the Sanguniang Panlaalwigan, city and municipal mayors, representatives from the academe, and students, among others.

LTO, PNP agree helmet law implementation moratorium in Dumaguete

Officials from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Dumaguete City and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in NegOr agreed to a moratorium on the implementation of Republic Act 10054 or the Mandatory Helmet Act of 2009 in the city.

This came after Gov. Roel Degamo today met with officials from LTO and PNP to request for a one-month postponement on the law’s implementation due to public opinion against using the helmet.

Dumaguete City has the most number of motorcycle users in the country and for many years has been the city's preferred mode of transport.

UN distributes hygiene kits for storm-hit lactating, pregnant mothers in Negros Oriental

Some 335 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers who were affected by Tropical storm Sendong received Thursday, hygiene kits from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo led the distribution of the kits held at the Dumaguete City Session Hall today together with UNFPA Program Officer Dyezebel Dado and Dumaguete City Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova.

The governor earlier requested the UNFPA for relief assistance after Tropical storm Sendong, which struck the province on Dec. 17, 2011, left thousands of families displaced after their houses were either swept away or damaged by the raging floods.
